I started making jewelry in high school and immediately fell in love with the process of manipulating metals for body adornment. In 2004 I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Metals from Ball State University. My kinetic, body responsive work began in college without fully understanding where it came from or why it was important to me. Within a couple of years of graduating from college I decided to pack my bench away and focus on raising a family. In 2014 after many moves, three kids and an existential crisis I decided to reconnect with my bench. I have since discovered that the predictability of repetition, stability of geometric structures and playfulness of kinetic elements in my jewelry design was a manifestation of the effects of being born and raised in a cult. My studio time has provided me with a positive outlet for trauma recovery. I hope the body responsive elements communicate the importance of being mirrored and remaining present in the moment for those that connect with my jewelry.
